Shiite Muslims in Kano protest US–Israeli attack on Iran

Thousands of Muslims, most of them belonging to the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (Shiites), on Friday staged a peaceful protest in the metropolis of Kano.

Hawzah News Agency- The protesters demanded freedom for Palestinians from what they described as Israeli occupation, condemned the attack on the Islamic Republic of Iran by the joint forces of the United States and Israel, and mourned the reported demise of Iranian leader, Sayyid Ayatullah Ali Khamnei.

Saturday Sun reports that the protest commenced immediately after Friday prayer at the Fagge Central Mosque, featuring demonstrators waving Palestinian, Iranian and Nigerian flags. The march lasted for about three hours.

The protesters moved through Ibrahim Taiwo Road and terminated at the bridge leading to Kofar Nasarawa along Zaria Road in Kano metropolis.

Shaikh Sidi Munir Mainasara, one of the organisers of the protest, told journalists that the event was part of “Quds Day”, which takes place on the last Friday of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

“Today being the last Friday of this month of Ramadan, the event is observed with public awareness campaigns, lectures and discussions in many cities in Nigeria and other parts of the world. Observing Quds Day this year is of particular importance as the aggression and genocide against the people of Palestine by Israel persists,” he stated.

He explained further that the United Nations, humanitarian agencies, academic research as well as the media have indicated that from October 2023 to date, no fewer than two hundred thousand Palestinians have either been killed or injured by the Israeli regime, while over hundreds of thousands of others are displaced.

He described the situation as “inhuman, horrific and unimaginable” and called for action against the Israeli regime.

He also described the late Supreme Leader of Iran as a man of God, humble and humane, who stood for oppressed people around the world, for which he said the leader was killed.

“Finally, we strongly condemn the ongoing atrocities being committed by Israel against Palestinians and reiterate our call for the freedom and liberation of Palestine and other oppressed people of the world,” he declared.
